Pulling up and other great feats

Just after starting at Little Gym, the boys got colds, followed by double ear infections. For whatever reason, this round of illness was really rough on the guys. They had trouble sleeping and were waking up for a couple of hours at a time through the night. I had gotten used to the past several months of 12 hours of great sleeping at night! At the worst of it, I had been up all night with one or the other, and both were upset & wanting to be held during the day, so I gave in and called my mom. Sometimes you just need your mom! She & my dad came up in the middle of the week to help me out. That Friday, J's mom came to help us out. I hated having to ask our moms to take time off work to help us, but it sure was nice to have them here. To say we are blessed with great parents would be an understatement. On a related note, we are trying to find a part-time nanny / babysitter!

The boys eventually got better, though their sleep was rough for about three weeks. They are just getting more and more fun, and growing way too fast! They are pulling up like crazy on everything, and their favorite thing to do is open and close doors. They think this is a way fun game, and so far we've not had any smashed fingers. They love to close their door, the tv cabinet doors, and Littlebit's crate door (when they can get to it). It's the best when they play with each other at the door, with one on either side as they open and close the door. They are really starting to play with each other more, and it's a lot of "follow the leader." We like it when one tries to get the other to follow him. Ben more often follows Jack and wants to be where Jack is than the opposite. Sometimes Jack doesn't like when Ben invades his space, especially if it's a tight space, like under their bouncers. He will whine a little or put his mouth on Ben to encourage him to move. Personal space is a hard one, but we are working on sharing.

Speaking of sharing, while Jack will whine and get upset if Ben takes a toy from him, he does not get upset at Little Gym when another kiddo takes a ball from him or gets in his space. It's so fascinating to watch them socially navigate.

Ben LOVES his brother and will rub his forehead on Jack in affection. He does this to me & J in affection too; closes his eyes and rubs his forehead against our faces. It's probably the sweetest thing ever. Except for Jack's affectionate kisses - he's pretty much stopped biting and just puts his open mouth on our leg/shoulder/etc. First he crawls over, looks up at us with an open-mouth smile, then puts his mouth on us. Loving little baby boys.

So I included a few pictures from the past couple of weeks. I loooove when they lose a toy under the furniture (that happens way too often) and look underneath to find it. They also really like sunlight on the floor, and Jack especially will play in it. Ben (and occasionally Jack) has started doing this kneeling thing when he crawls and gets where he wants to go. In one of the pictures below you can sort of get the idea of what he does - he puts one foot on the floor and sits on his other knee. It's almost like he's getting ready to stand up - so cute!

Jack: Where did that ball go?
Ben the doorkeeper
Ben very proud of himself for getting in his toy. Getting out was a little more difficult.

Ben's kneel, sort of
Jack trying to stand on his toy - he loves to pull up on the couch and look at Bit
